Job Description:
TESL Canada Federation is currently seeking a qualified Executive Director based in
Ottawa, ON. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and
management of TESL Canada Federation according to the strategic direction set by the
Board of Directors. Roles and Responsibilities:
The work is expected to include, but is not limited to:

  • Overseeing the planning, implementation and evaluation of TESL Canada’s programs,
    staff and services
    ● Working with TESL Canada’s Board of Directors to manage the affairs of the association
    ● Sitting as a member of TESL Canada’s Executive Committee
    ● Working with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive
    budget
    ● Administering the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and
    monitoring the monthly cash flow of the organization
    ● Fostering good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with TESL
    stakeholders, community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help
    achieve the goals of the organization
    ● Building local, national and international memberships and connections
    ● Serving as a public relations liaison with appropriate government and non-government
    agencies
    ● Researching potential funding and sponsorship sources
    ● Preparing, writing and managing grant proposals including funder reports
    ● Developing and implementing communication strategies and plans
    ● Developing and publishing general broadcast messages/communiqués
    ● Providing communications consultation advice to support board strategic
    communications initiatives and strategies
    ● Researching, developing and implementing communications strategies involving social
    media and related content (i.e. blogs, microblogs, wikis, crowdsourcing, content
    communities, social networks, etc.)
    ● Creating communications/PR related support materials
    ● Co-ordinating input in the creation and maintenance of web content, assigned web
    content, and the design, development and production of a range of information
    products; and researching and creating content, where necessary

Qualifications:
● Minimum bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred
● Excellent leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
● Federal government experience preferred
● Demonstrated previous success in fundraising
● Familiarity with the TESL/TESOL field and related services in Canada
● Minimum 3 years relevant experience as outlined above
● Work standard office hours, but additionally will work evening, weekends, and overtime hours, with prior approval by the executive, to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing TESL Canada at public events
